Block View or Block Glare?

We have been asked many different times. What is the difference between Solar Screens and Window Tint? There are so many differences that one could list. I will explain the what we consider the obvious. This will seem one sided. So I suggest that you investigate this yourself. The best way is to drive through a neighborhood that is about ten years old and look at the windows. You will notice the homes that have screens that are worn out; however, you will be hard pressed to find window film that has bubbled or faded in fact most of the tinting applied is hardly visible because window film does not change the look of the windows.
Residential and Commercial window films are constructed differently than automotive window tint. Auto tint has a rubber base adhesive that is very sticky when applied. That is so the film can adhere to the glass rapidly due to the curves in the glass and windows that roll down.
Window film applied on a home or business has an acrylic adhesive. This type of adhesive is activated by the Ultra Violet rays. Once the film has cured it has a hard bond to the glass unlike the automotive adhesive remains flexible over time the automotive adhesives will blister. Unlike the automotive films the residential acrylic adhesives films are given a manufacturer's lifetime warranty or for as long as you own your home. That could be 40+ years.
Madico has been in the window film industry since 1930. Madico History Page 1. Page 2. The manufacture also provides a glass breakage warranty and a Thermo- Safe warranty. They do this to insure the consumer will have a trouble free window film experience.

As solar screens age they will faded to a gray color. Notice the solar screens pictured above and to the
right, the screens that are shaded have been protected from the elements and are still fairly dark. The rest
of the screens are badly faded.
Screens age because they are exposed
to all the harsh elements outside ( Heat, Sun, Rain, Hail, Wind, Snow, Ice, Animals...)
Solar Control window film is applied on the interior side of the window blocking heat from entering the home
and being protected by the home at the same time.

This Customer wanted us to
tint the windows even though
he had solar screens.
They didn't reduce the glare.
You can see the screens on these
windows. The window on the left
only has a solar screen. The
window on the right has a same
solar screen, but we have
applied a glare reducing window
film. Notice the color
of the sky and the grass.
Problem Solved!
Some may argue that solar screens are just as optically clear as window tint.
If this were true sunglasses would be available in screen or tinted lenses.
